What are weight loss injections?

Weight loss injections are prescription medicines from a group known as GLP-1 receptor agonists. They work in a similar way to a hormone your body releases after eating, helping you feel fuller sooner and for longer, and reducing food cravings. Used alongside changes to diet and physical activity, they can support steady, sustainable weight loss for people living with obesity or who are overweight with a related health condition. They are not a quick fix or a substitute for healthy habits — they are a clinical tool that works best as part of a supported programme. Treatment is prescription-only in the UK and must be supplied after a consultation with a registered prescriber, who checks that it is safe and suitable for you before any medicine is dispensed.

How our online weight management programme works

Our service is built to be simple, private and properly clinical. There are four steps:

  1. Check your eligibility. Use our free BMI and eligibility checker to see whether you may meet the usual threshold.
  2. Complete your consultation. Answer a confidential health questionnaire about your weight, medical history and current medicines. It takes only a few minutes.
  3. Prescriber review. A GPhC-registered prescriber reviews your information and decides whether treatment is appropriate. They may contact you for more detail.
  4. Treatment and support. If approved, your medicine is dispatched in discreet packaging for next-day delivery, with clear instructions and ongoing dose support.

Am I eligible for treatment?

Prescription weight management is generally suitable for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI of 27 or above where there is a weight-related health condition such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, raised cholesterol or obstructive sleep apnoea. This mirrors the approach used across UK weight management services. Our eligibility checker gives you an instant estimate, but the final decision always rests with the prescriber after reviewing your full health information.

Treatment is not suitable for everyone. It is not prescribed during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and certain medical histories mean a different approach is safer. Being honest in your consultation helps us keep you safe.

Is it safe? Side effects to know about

When prescribed and monitored properly, GLP-1 weight management medicines have a well-understood safety profile. The most common side effects are digestive — nausea, constipation, diarrhoea or feeling full quickly — and these usually ease as your body adjusts and the dose is increased gradually. Less common but more serious effects are rare; your prescriber will explain the warning signs to look out for and what to do. Because we monitor your progress, we can adjust your dose or pause treatment if you experience problems. This ongoing oversight is exactly why buying these medicines from unregulated online sellers is risky: the MHRA has repeatedly warned that medicines bought outside the regulated pharmacy system may be fake, incorrectly dosed or unsafe.

Why choose Belgrave PharmHealth

We are a GPhC-registered pharmacy with a real clinic in Sheffield, not an anonymous website. That means every programme is overseen by a named superintendent pharmacist and supported by a clinical team you can actually speak to. We lead with the consultation, never the product — if treatment is not right for you, we will say so. And because we treat weight management as a programme rather than a one-off sale, you get the monitoring and support that make results more likely to last. Treatment costs from £149 / month, with no hidden fees.

Prefer to be seen face to face? Sheffield patients can attend our in-person weight management clinic in Highfield instead.

Frequently asked questions

How much weight could I lose?
Results vary from person to person. In clinical studies of GLP-1 weight management medicines, people who combined treatment with diet and activity changes lost a meaningful proportion of their body weight over several months. Your prescriber will set realistic expectations based on your starting point, and weight management works best alongside sustainable changes to eating and activity.
Do I have to inject myself?
Most modern weight management medicines are given as a once-weekly injection using a pre-filled pen with a very fine needle. We provide clear instructions and support, and many people find it quick and straightforward after the first dose. Tablet-based options may be discussed where appropriate.
What if treatment isn't suitable for me?
You are only charged for medication if a prescriber approves it. If treatment is not appropriate — for example if your BMI is below the threshold or you have a condition that makes it unsafe — we will tell you why and suggest alternatives, which may include lifestyle support or a referral.
Is my delivery discreet?
Yes. Treatment is dispatched in plain, unbranded packaging for next-day delivery to your chosen address anywhere in England, with cold-chain protection where the medicine requires it.
Can I just get this on the NHS?
The NHS offers weight management support and, in some cases, prescription treatment through specialist services, but access and waiting times vary. Our private service gives faster access following a clinical consultation. We are happy for you to discuss NHS options with your GP as well.
How is this safer than buying online elsewhere?
We are a GPhC-registered pharmacy. Every order follows a genuine clinical consultation reviewed by a registered prescriber, and medicines are sourced through the regulated UK supply chain. The MHRA warns against buying weight-loss medicines from unregulated sellers, which can be fake or unsafe.
What information do I need to provide?
You will complete a health questionnaire covering your weight, height, medical history, current medicines and any relevant conditions. We may ask for a recent blood pressure reading. Honest answers help the prescriber decide whether treatment is safe and suitable for you.
