What is the HPV vaccine?
The HPV vaccine protects against human papillomavirus, an extremely common virus that most people encounter at some point. Certain high-risk HPV types cause the great majority of cervical cancers, along with some anal, genital and head-and-neck cancers and genital warts. The vaccine we use, Gardasil 9, protects against nine HPV types and is one of the most effective cancer-prevention tools available. While the NHS offers HPV vaccination to children in school, many adults missed it — and protection is still worthwhile for many people into adulthood. At our Highfield clinic, adults of any gender can have a private HPV course, confidentially and conveniently, with free parking and same-day appointments. We’ll explain the right schedule for your age and answer any questions so you can make an informed choice.
Who should consider the HPV vaccine?
- Adults who missed the school HPV programme
- People who’d like protection against HPV-related cancers and genital warts
- Men as well as women — HPV affects everyone
- Those advised to consider it for specific health reasons
How many doses and how it works
Most adults need a course of two or three doses over about six months, depending on age at the first dose. We’ll confirm your exact schedule and book your follow-up appointments so you complete the course correctly. The vaccine is given in the upper arm and side effects are usually mild.
